Lineage

On reading this
Generations are counted within a branch, from its founder. Where a person holds a position in two lines, or teaches across them, the record says so on their own page — the columns above group by the branch each person is filed under, not by every line they touch.
A name marked Before the line predates the founder it taught and is not counted as one of its generations. A name markedCollateral branch belongs to the style without descending from its founder.
Empty spaces are deliberate. A relation appears only when a source supports it; where a teacher's students are unrecorded, the record ends at the teacher rather than guessing forward.
